Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift rejuvenates the upper third of the face by elevating and repositioning the brow and forehead. Like eyelid surgery, this procedure can improve the appearance around the eyes, helping to correct a tired or aged look. Brow lift surgery also can improve deep forehead creases and hyperactive muscles.
Our Scottsdale plastic surgeon, Dr. Steven H. Turkeltaub, is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and his refined surgical skills and elevated artistic sensibilities allow him to deliver elegant, natural-looking brow lift results for his patients.
What Are the Benefits of a Brow Lift?
A brow lift can offer patients numerous cosmetic benefits, including:
- Lifting sagging brows for a more youthful appearance
- Reducing forehead lines and frown lines between the brows
- Creating a more open, refreshed eye area
- Enhancing facial symmetry and balance
- Improving first impressions by creating a more relaxed, friendly look
- Boosting self-confidence with natural-looking results
- The procedure is often performed with minimally invasive techniques, allowing for quicker recovery
- A brow lift complements other facial procedures, such as eyelid surgery, for comprehensive rejuvenation
What Does the Brow Lift Procedure Involve?
There are two major approaches for brow lift surgery: endoscopic and open. The endoscopic approach uses short incisions that are placed behind the hairline to help elevate the brows, tighten the skin and address muscle hyperactivity. This method has many advantages and can be used on a majority of patients.
The open brow lift technique involves an incision that extends from ear to ear. This can be placed either completely within the scalp or partially along the hairline at the top of the forehead. In certain situations, this approach can provide a better outcome.
There are much less common techniques to a brow lift that are reserved for specific situations. These include incisions placed through the upper eyelid when combined with eyelid surgery or placed in a forehead crease for men with advanced balding.
A brow lift is usually performed as an outpatient procedure and is frequently combined with eyelid surgery and a facelift.
What Is Recovery After Brow Lift Surgery Like?
Recovery following a brow lift typically spans one to two weeks. Patients may experience mild swelling, bruising and a sense of tightness around the forehead, which generally subsides within a few days. Most individuals can resume light activities within a week, though rigorous exercise should be postponed for at least three weeks. Elevating the head and adhering to post-operative care guidelines can expedite healing. As residual swelling diminishes, the results become more pronounced over several weeks. When possible, Dr. Turkeltaub uses the endoscopic brow lift technique, which requires smaller incisions, reduces downtime and minimizes visible scarring.
Additional Frequently Asked Questions About Brow Lift Surgery
Q: What are the advantages of the endoscopic brow lift?
A: There are several advantages of the endoscopic approach to brow lift surgery including less discomfort, lower risk of permanent hair loss, less scalp numbness, shorter scars and less operative time.
Q: How do I know if I am a candidate for an endoscopic brow lift procedure?
A: A majority of people who need a brow lift can benefit from this approach. However, if you have a very wide forehead, a traditional open brow lift with part of the incision placed at the hairline (so as to narrow rather than widen the forehead) may be preferable.
Q: How much discomfort will I have after brow lift surgery?
A: The discomfort after a brow lift may be mild to moderate for the first two to three days and is well controlled with pain medication. There is less discomfort when the endoscopic approach is used.
Q: When will I be presentable to the public after my brow lift?
A: Depending on the nature of the procedure, you may be presentable at five to seven days after your brow lift surgery.
