Breast Implant Sizes
Breast implants are manufactured in a wide range of sizes – from virtually never used, extremely small sizes to very large ones more commonly used with larger individuals and in breast reconstruction. The smallest one that is produced is 100 cc which is 3.5 ounces or less than half an 8 ounce cup.
Very light.
On the other end of the spectrum is an 800 cc implant – the largest one available. It weighs in at around 28 ounces. This is only 4 ounces less than a quart for each implant. Think of a quart of milk. Two of them would be a cup short of a half a gallon of milk and you know how heavy that feels.
That is a bit more substantial weight sitting on your chest.
Do Implant Shape and Profile Affect Weight?
Implants are available in round and anatomic or teardrop shapes. They also come in different profiles. This means that for a given volume, they can be wider and less projecting (low or moderate profile) or narrower and more projecting (high/full and ultra-high profile).
Does this make a difference with regard to weight?
It does not.
A given volume of silicone or saline weighs the same no matter what the configuration is. That is, an implant’s shape has no impact on its weight.
Is There a Significant Weight Difference Between Silicone and Saline?
Silicone and saline are very close in weight per cc. When the differential of the envelope weight is factored in, this difference becomes even more marginal. Then consider this in comparison to your weight and it becomes infinitesimal.
Inconsequential.
Is the Weight of the Breast Implants Relevant?
The impact of the implants on your weight depends on the implant size and to a lesser extent, your weight. In the scheme of things, the weight of a pair of breast implants at the smaller end of the volume spectrum, will have essentially no noticeable difference on your weight especially given daily fluctuations. You can see this in the table below.
Of course, there can be quite a noticeable difference where it counts – in the appearance of your breasts!
For example, a pair of 240 cc silicone breast implants will add just one pound to your weight. If you weigh 145 pounds, that adds up to just a 0.7% increase in your weight.
In contrast, larger breast implants – around 450 cc to 800cc – will add 2 pounds or more to your weight.
Weights of Specific Sized Breast Implants
The following chart lists breast implant sizes, from smallest to largest, at intervals of 20 cc. It provides you with the weight of both one and two breast implants. If you have two different size implants, simply find the weights of each implant and then add them together. Implant volumes half way between these numbers can be easily calculated though the contribution to your weight is nothing. This difference is the same as 2 teaspoons of water.
